On 30 October - 1 November, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science is organizing a hackathon together with the Inspectorate Social Affairs and Employment and the Ministry of Interior and Kingdom Relations to find creative solutions to uncover bias that leads to gender discrimination within automated recruitment and selection system processes. The event will be held online. Not to worry. We make sure you will get the spirit of a hackathon at home and create for you an allround experience with surprises at home.

Why this hackathon?

Discrimination remains a common problem in the labor market. In the future, companies will be required by law to pursue a policy for promoting equal opportunities within recruitment and candidate selection. As this equal opportunities standard applies to all organizations in the Netherlands, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, Inspectorate Social Affairs and Employment, and the Ministry of Interior and Kingdom Relations, are organizing this hackathon to shine a spotlight on gender discrimination within data-driven recruitment technology by inviting experts in tech, legal, policy, science, and entrepreneurship to find new solutions to make the labor market discrimination-free.

What the heck is a hackathon?

A hackathon is a competition where teams work together in a pressure cooker environment to build and design solutions for a challenge in a very limited time. The duration of a hackathon varies, but most hackathons take about one or two days After the time is up, teams present their solutions to a leading jury and the best solution will win a prize.

Why don't you want to miss out?

You will not only experience the excitement and pressure of a hackathon, but you will also meet awesome new people with different backgrounds and witness what you and your team can build in two days. There are mentors and experts to guide you along the way and help you learn more about methodologies, such as design thinking and lean start-up.

Plus, great news when it comes to cooking. You don’t have to think about food & beverages. We know how important this is and we do take care of this. Healthy snacks, michelin star dishes and energizing bars are coming your way. We do make sure the hackathon experience comes to your home.

Prize pool

The prizes are worth taking part of the #ADhackathon. The winning team wins a cash prize of €5000,- and the runner-up team €2500,-. An opportunity for an incubation program with the Government of the Netherlands will also be given to the winner and runner-up.

Who are we looking for?

Are you a developer, data scientist, HR employee, entrepreneur, lawyer, teacher, social-, organizational-, neuro-, or psychological scientist working in the fields of diversity, inclusion, or recruitment selection and living in The Netherlands? Then we are looking for you!

Don’t freak out if you are a non-techie. Technology and data play a key role in building and designing solutions, but a great hackathon team also needs dynamic and creative thinkers.

Hackathons are a great opportunity to learn new skills from team members. So why not give yourself that little push to step out of your comfort zone and experiment with new technologies and innovative techniques?
