Why do I feel so confused about whether it was really abuse?

This confusion is a hallmark sign. The subtle tactics and gaslighting ("you're too sensitive") make you doubt yourself. Your feelings are valid—the confusion itself is evidence of what you experienced.

Is it normal to still have feelings for my abuser?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Trauma bonding from intermittent kindness creates powerful attachment. You may miss who you thought they were. These feelings don't invalidate the abuse and typically fade with healing.

How do I know if I'm ready to share my story?

Trust your instincts. Listen first if you prefer, or share immediately if that helps. No pressure, just share as much or little as feels comfortable. "I'm not ready yet" is always okay.

What if the person isn't "bad enough" to be a narcissist?

Labels don't matter, your pain does. If you felt diminished, confused, controlled, or walked on eggshells, your experience is valid regardless of clinical diagnosis.

Can I talk about non-romantic relationships?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Covert narcissistic abuse happens with parents, siblings, friends, bosses, coworkers, any relationship. All experiences are welcome here.

What if I'm not sure I should be here?
