Open Paviljoen: Grabbing the Land Archives

This participatory workshop reveals the historical and ongoing land struggles of Indonesian farmers through a curated series of archival landscape photographs, particularly in the context of postcolonial power transitions. The archives are drawn from various archival institutions in the Netherlands and are brought into conversation with present-day struggles. By unearthing overlooked archives and connecting them to contemporary struggles, the workshop invites people from all backgrounds to reflect on memory, land, and justice. Together, we read and reclaim the reality of displacement while grabbing the land archives in an active, collective way. 

The Vacuum Landscape is a post-(de)colonial art collective formed by artists from Asia. They work with archives and visual art to navigate land rights, the realities of displacement, and solidarity with ongoing resistance movements.

Deze workshop onthult de historische en voortdurende strijd om land van Indonesische boeren door middel van een zorgvuldig samengestelde reeks landschapsfoto’s uit verscheidene archieven, met name in de context van postkoloniale machtsoverdrachten. De archieven zijn afkomstig uit verschillende archiefinstellingen in Nederland en worden in verband gebracht met hedendaagse conflicten. Hiermee nodigt de workshop mensen van alle achtergronden uit om te reflecteren op herinnering, land en rechtvaardigheid. Samen lezen en heroveren we de realiteit van ontheemding, terwijl we de archieven van het land op een actieve, collectieve manier (be)grijpen.

The Vacuum Landscape is een post(de) koloniaal kunstenaarscollectief, gevormd door kunstenaars uit Azië. Ze werken met archieven en beeldende kunst om te reflecteren op landrechten, de realiteit van ontheemding en solidariteit met voortdurende verzetsbewegingen.
