Opening IABR–2018+2020–THE MISSING LINK 

De Internationale Architectuur Biennale Rotterdam (IABR) is opgericht in 2001 in de overtuiging dat architectuur en met name de stedenbouw van groot maatschappelijk belang is. Sinds 2004 richt de IABR zich onder directie van George Brugmans nadrukkelijk op de toekomst van de stad, waar over een aantal decennia bijna 80% van de wereldbevolking meer dan 90% van onze welvaart zal produceren – en dat moet op een duurzame manier in weerbare steden. In haar meerjarenbeleidsplan 2017 – 2020: Naar een Weerbare Stad plaatst de IABR de toekomst van de stad daarom in het teken van klimaatverandering en groeiende sociale ongelijkheid. De IABR wil naar vermogen bijdragen aan het helpen realiseren van de Sustainable Development Goals van de Verenigde Naties en het halen van de doelstellingen vastgelegd in het Klimaatverdrag van Parijs. Zij doet dit door op haar internationaal platform kennisuitwisseling te stimuleren tussen steden, tussen professionals en publiek, tussen binnen-en buitenland, tussen sectoren en disciplines. En in de IABR-Ateliers zet de IABR permanent ontwerpend onderzoek in om samen met lokale, regionale en nationale overheden, in binnen- en buitenland, te werken aan strategische visies, plannen en projecten: aan resultaten die werkelijk en concreet bijdragen aan de stad van morgen.The International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam (IABR) was founded in 2001 on the conviction that architecture and especially urban planning are of great social importance. Since 2004, when George Brugmans became its director, the IABR therefore mainly focuses on the future of the city where, in a couple of decades, nearly 80 percent of the world’s population will produce more than 90 percent of our wealth—and this will have to be done sustainably. In its multiyear policy plan 2017-2020: Towards a Resilient City, the IABR expressly places the future of the city in the context of climate change and increasing social inequality. In any way it can, the IABR wants to contribute to the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations and the achievement of the objectives set out in the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. On the international platform of the biennale, we encourage the exchange of knowledge and expertise among cities, between professionals and public, between The Netherlands and abroad, and across sectors and disciplines. In the IABR Ateliers, we deploy research by design to work with local, regional and national authorities on strategic visions, plans and projects, always insisting on applicable results that make a concrete contribution to a sustainable urban future.

<H2 CLASS="MsoNormal">ONZE TOEKOMST IN DE DELTA, DE DELTA VAN DE TOEKOMST</H2>
De Internationale Architectuur Biennale Rotterdam vindt plaats van 1 juni tot 8 juli 2018. Het is de achtste editie en het eerste deel van het tweeluik IABR–2018+2020–THE MISSING LINK, dat in één keer in twee steden wordt georganiseerd: Rotterdam en Brussel. 
De hoofdtentoonstelling is tot en met 8 juli 2018 te zien in het HAKA-gebouw in Rotterdam, een rijksmonument in het Merwe-Vierhavensgebied (M4H). Plannen, projecten, films, foto’s en maquettes die context zijn en inspiratie bieden. Ook voor het werkprogramma dat in diezelfde periode wordt georganiseerd in het HAKA en het omliggende M4H-gebied. Een publiek programma met debatten, workshops, lezingen, conferenties, rondleidingen en nog heel veel meer. 2018 is het lanceerplatform,een werkbiennale, en we nodigen iedereen van harte uit om zich bij ons aan te sluiten. 
 
The International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam will launch its eighth edition, part one of IABR–2018+2020–THE MISSING LINK, in one go in two cities: Rotterdam and Brussels.
The main exhibition will take place from 1 June to 8 July 2018 in the HAKA Building in Rotterdam, a national industrial monument in the Merwe-Vierhavens District that is better known as M4H. It will include plans, projects, films, photographs and models that provide both context and inspiration to the work program that is organized in the same period in the HAKA Building and in the surrounding M4H District, a public program that includes debates, workshops, lectures, conferences, guided tours, and much, much more. The 2018 biennale is a launching pad, a work biennale, and we cordially invite everyone to join us.
