Join us for the opening of YU NA MI SREFI, reflecting on black fatherhood through film, photography, and poetry.

Opening YOAK x Terra Isis Gitane: YU NA MI SREFI YU NA MI SREFI is a space where nothing is black and/or white. It finds you in the grey area, where the blueprint of our existence nestles. In this intimate installation, Terra Isis Gitane reflects on black fatherhood within Surinamese and Afrodiasporic communities, grappling with the lasting impacts of colonialism, also reflected in the so-called ‘broken family’ structures.Through film, photography, and poetry, Terra researches what happens when stories of fathers are reduced to stereotypes, and explores how grief can turn into growth. A shared search for understanding and healing of generational trauma creating space for a deeper and more honest conversation.Presented as part of Young OSCAM Art Kitchen (YOAK), this exhibition nurtures emerging voices who are redefining creativity, heritage, and the power of storytelling.Discover these stories during the opening of our new YOAK exhibition YU NA MI SREFI by Terra Isis Gitane on Saturday December 6. Het is een grijs gebied, de plek waar de blauwdruk van ons bestaan zich nestelt. In deze intieme installatie reflecteert Terra Isis Gitane op zwart vaderschap, en onderzoekt hoe de erfenis van het koloniale verleden doorwerkt in hedendaagse gezinsopstellingen.Met film, fotografie en poëzie onderzoekt Terra wat er gebeurt wanneer de verhalen van zwarte vaders worden gereduceerd tot stereotypen, en hoe we met eerlijkheid en begrip de andere narratieven kunnen eren of kunnen transformeren. Een gezamenlijke zoektocht naar begrip en heling van generationeel trauma, die ruimte creeërt voor een dieper en open gesprek.De tentoonstelling maakt deel uit van Young OSCAM Art Kitchen (YOAK), een platform dat nieuwe makers de ruimte biedt om erfgoed, creativiteit en de kracht van verhalen op een eigentijdse manier vorm te geven.Ontdek deze verhalen tijdens de opening van YU NA MI SREFI op Zaterdag 6 December.
