Panel Talk at Galerie Ron Mandos — 'Nowhere but the Night'

Over 20 years, Galerie Ron Mandos has earned its place of prominence within the Dutch art scene. First opening its doors in Rotterdam in 1999, it has since accrued a roster of over 30 artists from around the globe, becoming an integral nexus-point for artists at all stages of their career. In 2010, the gallery moved to its current location in the Amsterdam gallery district. In its pursuit of new developments within contemporary art and facilitated by its spacious venue, the gallery presents an extensive program within which new and dynamic means of representation are sought.

A special panel talk at Galerie Ron Mandos on Nowhere but the Night, honoring Erwin Olaf’s legacy and Amsterdam’s queer culture.

Before the public opening, we invite you to join a Panel Talk (1:00–2:00 PM) at Galerie Ron Mandos. The discussion brings together Gemma Rolls-Bentley (curator of Nowhere but the Night and author of Queer Art: From Canvas to Club and the Spaces Between), Shirley den Hartog (Director of Studio Erwin Olaf), and Joost van Bellen (writer and DJ, winner of the 2024 Amsterdam Art Prize, and author of Pandaogen, Nachtdier, and Fenix—in which Erwin Olaf is featured). Together, they will reflect on Erwin Olaf’s creative legacy, his influence on Amsterdam’s queer community, his activism, and how his vision continues to inspire new generations of artists. The talk will also explore the themes central to Nowhere but the Night: freedom, community, and visibility.
