Pilar Mata Dupont: A Table Read
Event Information
About this event
WET is proud to present A Table Read, a performance by Pilar Mata Dupont, with Petra Ball, Ratri Notosudirdjo and Lili Ullrich.
Since 2013, Pilar Mata Dupont has been making a video archive of testimony by women in her family who lived through the last military dictatorship in Argentina. A Table Read is an iteration of this wider project, taking the loose format of a table read, a pre-production stage of film and theatre in which actors read through the script for the first time, to evoke the cacophony of truths and fragmentary information collected through Mata Dupont’s research.
Three unreliable narrators, changing roles between members of Mata Dupont’s family, attempt to piece together memories of a past mediated through the fragments of an autofictive screenplay. How can a slippery notion of collective and personal memory manifest, through this layered, intergenerational storytelling?
This process of reflexive unfolding invites the audience to witness a vulnerable but generative situation revealing improvisation, hesitations, unresolved elements, and hints of future iterations that are still open to a different range of possibilities.
WET is a Rotterdam-based production and distribution cooperative for film, video and artists’ moving image founded by Anna Maria Łuczak, Erika Roux, Marta Hryniuk, Nick Thomas and Sophie Bates. We work within a spectrum of contemporary moving image practices and come together to pursue a mode of production based on collaboration and mutual support. A Table Read is part of our programme How to Get from Space to Place, a series of exhibitions and events taking place from 2021-22.
Language: English.
Unfortunately the WET space is not currently wheelchair accessible. We hope to have a working elevator in the building in the near future.
