Les Halles Citadelle - Strasbourg

<h3>Placemaking Week Europe is the largest placemaking festival in Europe</h3><p>Every year at Placemaking Week Europe, placemakers from around the world come together each year in a new host city to present expertise and ideas, share projects, discuss placemaking strategies and methodology, and work together with city municipalities to launch new placemaking initiatives in-situ. It is the most embedded urban festival in Europe with the distinct mission of creating better cities, together. </p><p>Placemaking is the approach of building communities around a place, and places by communities. People are invited to reimagine and reinvent public spaces collectively.  Placemaking connects economic and social well-being, as well as, quality of life strategically. Builds on the human need for prosperity, sociability and security. The movement builds on more than 50 years of experience in more than 50 countries. </p>

<h3>The festival’s co-host city for 2023 is Strasbourg, France! </h3><p>Strasbourg’s local government serves under a strong political view based on Democracy, Ecology, Solidarity, and Equity. It aims to transform important elements of the city – like its public squares – with a focused perspective on gender and inclusion. Also important to its mission is greening the city, which already boasts a position as one of the most bike friendly cities in France. Place-led development shows to be another big area of opportunity, particularly for Strasbourg’s old harbour, which is currently in the process of being transformed; maintaining industrial activities while creating affordable housing; the evolution of public space; and the reuse of industrial buildings for creative purposes, with a strong focus on social economy.</p>

<h3>T﻿he Main Venue</h3><p>An exciting element for the 2023 festival taking place in Strasbourg is its main venue: Les Halles Citadelle.</p><p>A cross-border venue between France and Germany, this venue was formerly a port warehouse and now acts as a genuine alternative meeting place. Former port warehouses and a real place of proximity to meet in the Quartier Citadelle, Les Halles Citadelle came to life from the summer of 2021 and are being invented in a process of transitional activation until 2025 via the Phare Citadelle project as a fantastic new co-op.</p>

<p>Les Halles Citadelle is not only a place to have a drink and to enjoy the best frites in town, but it also hosts conferences, outdoor activities, and workshops, but it also is surrounded by beautiful natural elements, and operates with a cooperative governance framework. </p><p>For Placemaking Week Europe 2023, the venue will be transformed to host an indoor main stage with capacity for 600 attendees, and an open air stage that hugs the water’s edge of the old port. It truly is an example of placemaking at its best!</p><p>We look forward to welcoming our partners and attendees to Placemaking Week Europe 2023 in Strasbourg!</p>

<h3>T﻿his year's themes:</h3><p>Placemaking Europe explores transversal topics like gender-inclusive urbanism, multigenerational places, place-based economic development, technology and data, inclusive prosperity, creative bureaucracy, arts &amp; culture.
