Press Play is a series of events organized by the Goethe-Institut Netherlands in the form of listening sessions, where special guests are invited to bring along music to talk about and analyse.

It's high time for another round of Press Play - our Listening Sessions series. As always, we have invited some very fine guests. Lie Ning, singer and artist, who will be stopping in Amsterdam on their Slow Touring Tour, and Amsterdam-based artist Astrit Ismaili will be meeting at the Goethe-Institut for a speed date to get to know each other through the language of music. You are also cordially invited to <a href="https://www.goethe.de/ins/nl/nl/sta/ams/ver.cfm?event_id=25932638" title="https://www.goethe.de/ins/nl/nl/sta/ams/ver.cfm?event_id=25932638" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Lie Ning's concert on Thursday 12 September.</a>

<a href="https://thisisliening.com/" title="https://thisisliening.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">LIE NING</a> Growing up in Berlin, LIE NING was exposed to a mixture of languages, images and melodies from an early age on, creating an interest in dance, fashion and fine arts. Music especially. From early on their mother showed them a world of rhythm and melodies, which would never let go of them again. Their voice emerged as the most powerful means of expression. Everything they couldn’t convey visually they wrote into songs.

<a href="https://labecque.ch/en/astrit-ismaili/" title="https://labecque.ch/en/astrit-ismaili/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Astrit Ismaili</a> Born in Kosovo in 1991 and currently based in Amsterdam, Astrit Ismaili is an artist who explores the transformative potential of bodies and spaces in their performances. By presenting characters, most of them singers, symbolic figures, or alter egos made up of fictional, historical, and personal references, the artist also explores the role of the voice in pop culture and its relationship with identity politics. Using body extensions and portable musical instruments, Ismaili’s work embodies the possibility of constructing new worlds and shaping new icons, while blurring the intimate relationship between performer and audience.
