Een van de belangrijkste aspecten in het toepassen van MGA is het kennen van je BATNA (Best Alternative to The Negotiated Agreement) en dat ook kunnen verbeteren. Ben je daarnaast ook in staat om het BATNA van de andere partijen aan tafel goed in te schatten? En kun je met die kennis opties voorstellen die voor meerdere partijen aantrekkelijk zijn? Voor veel onderhandelaars en procesbegeleiders is BATNA het lastigste begrip om te doorgronden en dat is niet zonder gevolgen. Prof. Susskind leidt ons langs de valkuilen en laat zien hoe je het BATNA optimaal kunt benutten.

One of the most important aspects in applying the Mutual Gains Approach, is to know your BATNA and possibilities to improve it. It also requires the ability to estimate the BATNA’s of other parties and handling this in proposing possible solutions. For many people BATNA is the most difficult concept to grasp with unwanted consequences as a result. Prof. Susskind guides us through the possible pitfalls and helps us to take the most of the BATNA.

About the key note speaker
prof. Lawrence Susskind (MIT, Harvard en Tufts Universities) is one of America’s most experienced public and environmental dispute mediators, and leading figure in the dispute resolution field. He has mediated more than fifty complex disputes related to the siting of controversial facilities, the setting of public health and safety standards, the formulation and implementation of development plans and projects and conflicts among racial and ethnic groups — serving on occasion as a special court-appointed master.
He currently teaches Negotiation and Dispute Resolution in the Public Sector, Introduction to Environmental Policy and Planning, Water Diplomacy, and Entrepreneurial Negotiation. He is Director of the MIT Science Impact Collaborative (scienceimpact.mit.edu) and Co-Director of the MIT Cybersecurity Clinic (urbancyberdefense.mit.edu). From 2014 - 2018 Professor Susskind was Director of the MIT-UTM Malaysia Sustainable Cities Program (malaysiacities.mit.edu). He supervises undergraduate, masters and doctoral students every year and has headed more than 70 doctoral dissertation committees and more than 125 master thesis committees.
