RFG KinoClub is een netwerkevenement van RFG, een organisatie voor journalisten met een vluchtelingenachtergrond. We vertonen een film en gaan in gesprek met de maker. Na afloop is er gelegenheid om te netwerken met een hapje en een drankje.

Dit keer een bijzondere aflevering, want de film No End van de Iraanse regisseur en filmjournalist Navid Nikkhah Azad beleeft bij ons zijn premiere.

Azad vluchtte najaar 2023 naar Nederland, in de wetenschap dat zijn film niet goed zou vallen bij het Iraanse regime. No End, door Azad omschreven als een ‘zwarte komedie’, levert scherpe kritiek op de Iraanse censuur en het keiharde neerslaan van de protesten na de moord op Jina Mahsa Amini.

Voorafgaand aan No End (45 minuten) vertonen we Azads korte film The Recess uit 2023, die al werd geselecteerd voor meerdere internationale festivals.

Na afloop gaat documentairemaker Lidija Zelovic in gesprek met Azad over zijn werk.

A Black Comedy from Iran

RFG KinoClub is a networking event hosted by RFG, an organization for journalists with a refugee background. We screen a film and engage in a discussion with the filmmaker. Afterwards, there is an opportunity to network with snacks and drinks.

This time, we have a special edition featuring the premiere of No End by Iranian director and film journalist Navid Nikkhah Azad. Azad fled to the Netherlands in the fall of 2023, knowing that his film would not be well-received by the Iranian regime. No End, described by Azad as a 'black comedy,' delivers sharp criticism of Iranian censorship and the brutal crackdown on protests following the murder of Jina Mahsa Amini.

Before No End (45 minutes), we will screen Azad's short film The Recess from 2023, which has already been selected for several international festivals.

After the screenings, documentary filmmaker Lidija Zelovic will have a conversation with Azad about his work.
