Learn how to work with risograph color blending, gradients, and layering techniques to create rich, multi-color prints.
RISO Gradients
Do you want learn how to print crispy, colorful gradients on the risograph? Join us.
In this full-day workshop taught in English, we will discuss how to avoid your gradients having those visible gradient steps, or that white hue in the middle. This workshop is designed for those who have already attended an initial ‘Intro to RISO’ session or have prior experience with risoprinting.
Together, we’ll explore how to make the most of the riso colors, moving beyond their single 100% values and seeing how they blend at different densities. The aim is to see how two riso colors can create a wide range of colors when mixed in different ways, and to understand how to prepare your files to avoid color getting smudgy.
We start off with some coffee and tea while we discuss color blending within the riso color wheel and how to digitally simulate color blending. We will look at ways of creating gradients in illustrator that give you maximum freedom when printing on the risograph. After some exploration, we will discuss how to optimize and export your files for printing large scale gradients.
If you already have a design you would like to optimize for gradient printing, great! If not, no worries—this workshop is all about color experimentation! You could bring some inspirational images from your camera roll that have nice gradients/color combination, like that nice green hill contrasted against a blue sky or that beautiful sunset on the beach. Together, we can dissect them to see how the colors translate to risograph spot color gradients.
The workshop fee includes 5 prints in two colors of your own design in A3 (on our favorite off-white EOS paper at 120g thickness) and a list of resource links sent after the workshop.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Make sure to bring a laptop with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator (or tablet with similar software) installed.
Cancellation: If you cancel more than 12 hours before the workshop begins, your payment can be transferred to another Intro to RISO Course in the future.
