RUN, ARTIST-RUN! Workshop - Public Program

Students of the KABK (BA Fine Arts) present their public program at the end of the course ‘RUN, ARTIST-RUN!’ that took place this spring at The Balcony.

Originally set in the vitrine of a violin store in 2018, The Balcony is now situated at the Nieuwe Molstraat in The Hague, hosting a curated program and artist studios. Among the leading intentions is the wish for sustainable and realistic working conditions, as well as an exhibition and public program.
By learning conceptual and practical knowledge on curating and exhibition making, the students developed concrete exercises and tools, leading to the presentation of their own initiative.

Join us for the presentation of ‘RUN, ARTIST-RUN!’ this Friday, 30th May, divided into three interventions!

RUN, ARTIST-RUN! – How Much of Me is Me
16:00 - 17:00

How Much of Me Is Me? is an event focused on the exploration of self through automatic drawing and writing - a kind of creating driven by the subconscious mind. Zuzanna Dziedzic and Charlotte Jones invite you to join the experience of introspective, playful, and collaborative creation, aiming to uncover your true, hidden self.

Together with other participants, you will create a big, intuitive artwork on a shared piece of paper. During this group session, 10 different short texts will be slowly read to facilitate gentle guidance. However, the action of creating will happen without discussing the plan or idea for the outcome beforehand - just let your hand move freely, and don’t be afraid of adding on to what others have made!
At the end, we will display the finished piece on the wall to reflect on it, observe everyone’s creative approaches, and the relationships between them.

RUN, ARTIST-RUN! – More than things
17:30 - 18:30

This event by Soeun Nam and Jingyu Liang offers an opportunity to interpret and reflect on the lives of the objects around us. Our memories are not made up of ourselves alone — they are deeply intertwined with the non-human things that surround us.

In this workshop, we invite you to shift the subject of your memories from yourself to these objects, and to recall your past in a new way. Participants will be asked to think of an object that once held special meaning for them but no longer exists. Through creative writing, they will imagine the life of that object and revisit the memories attached to it. This will be a moment to view personal belongings in a different light, reconstruct forgotten stories, and spark new imagination through lost objects.

RUN, ARTIST-RUN! – Pots & Cups
19:00 - 20:00

Pots & Cups is a participatory interactive sound-piece introduced and guided by Jacobus Benning and Marie Lou Honert.

Experimental instruments will be installed in the exhibition space, open for visitors to interact with and play. A collective sound piece will grow at the event by interconnecting sound, space, artists, visitors and their bodies.

This is a free event. Drinks and light refreshments provided.
