What you will learn
A hands-on three days intensive and comprehensive course on mould approach, mould-making, preparation, casting, opening the mould and finishing the sculpture. Abeer will take you through the steps at the start of the workshop, then he will discuss with you the best approach to cast your piece of work.
You will have the chance to make one copy of your work. Casting mediums are: plaster, cement, wax and low-melt metal.
By the end of the course you will be able to
- Identify the correct process to cast an object with.
- Prepare and seal objects and moulds before casting.
- Identify correct release agents.
- Make cavity rubber moulds- silicone and gelflex.
- Make solid rubber moulds- silicone and gelflex.
- Cast using one of the chosen mediums: plaster, wax, low-melt metal and cement.
- Understand and practice Health and Safety procedures and good workshop practice.
Class format and activities
As well as practical work developing your own moulds and casts, there will be demonstrations, group work and one to one instructions and discussions in order to ensure that you make the best possible progress during the workshop. You will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive, supportive and friendly environment.

What you will need for the workshop
You can bring one or two objects maximum size (25X25X25 cm) that you would like to cast. Please contact the tutor with an image and dimensions: abeer@abeerelkhateb.com for advice if needed.

Note: Some extra fees will be charged for materials when the participants use over and above their allocated course materials fee. 1kg of silicone rubber is included in the course costs and is €15 per kg after that.
