<h4>11th Edition of the international student competition in biosensing!</h4>

Participating teams and their supervisors do not need to register.SensUs 2026 challenges ambitious university students from all over the globe to form a student team and start developing an innovative biosensing system for continuously monitoring levodopa for Parkinson's disease.

<h4>About the theme:</h4>

Parkinson’s disease is the fastest-growing and second most common neurodegenerative disease, after Alzheimer’s. The primary risk factor is age, with onset usually starting at 50-60 years.Progression of Parkinson’s disease starts when neurons in your brain that produce dopamine begin to die. Dopamine is vital in controlling movement, memory, sleep, and your brain’s reward system and good mood. Thus, loss of dopamine in the brain can lead to symptoms like slow movement, tremors, sleep problems, anxiety, and depression.Parkinson’s disease does not have a cure yet. However, one of the most popular and effective treatments for managing symptoms is levodopa. A standard therapeutic range for plasma levodopa is typically considered to be between 2 - 7.6 µM following a dose. As the disease progresses, the relationship between dose and clinical response becomes complicated, manifesting as unpredictable motor fluctuations and dyskinesias. A continuous wearable levodopa sensor would help doctors to make informed decisions about personalized patient treatment and how to adjust medication in real-time to reduce levodopa fluctuations. Continuous sensing would also help researchers better understand the pharmacokinetics of levodopa across different matrixes. This could improve treatment strategies for late-stage Parkinson's patients

<h4>About the teams:</h4>

The 2026 SensUs edition will gather 18 student teams from all over the world, such as USA, China, Canada, Türkiye, Switzerland, Germany, France, etc. The teams consist of students of varying ages, education, and experience. They think differently about world problems and how they can be solved. Every team is linked with research groups, each with their own expertise. By giving the teams the freedom to choose and develop their own measuring techniques, the SensUs Competition results in a large range of new innovative technologies that are implemented in prototypes.Join us for a day filled with inspiring and jaw-dropping activities:<ul><li>Listen to students presenting their prototype continuous levodopa biosensor</li><li>Have a chance to meet the hard-working individuals behind the innovations</li></ul>
