About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

We will end up this academic year with a lighter film: Spud (2010). The film is based on the first novel in a bestselling South African series.
Two South African international students will join us for the discussion.

Set in 1990s South Africa, the film follows the story of John Milton, a young teenager who enters an elite boarding school. Coming from a middle-class and somewhat dysfunctional family, he must face sudden changes in his life, both internal and external, in a completely new environment with very little support.

Spud is a story of friendship and resilience in the face of change, and of the difficult path to adulthood — with a touch of classic literature.

Free entrance!

We meet in the SKLO building (kraneweg 33, Groningen) - first floor (upstairs, room 13)

Films are a universal attractive language and a tool to connect with different people in just around 90 minutes. Good films can raise questions about worldviews, current hot-topics, or even open our eyes to other people's experiences or situations that were unknown to us.

In "Let's movie it!" we aim to show good quality movies with a wide variety of styles and themes, followed by an open discussion in an informal and friendly atmosphere, hoping to leave some food for thought.
