We are pleased to inform you that the STEP Project Global Consortium - (SPGC) Global Family Business Summit will be hosted next year with our affiliate Cátedra de Empresa Familiar de la Universitat de València (CEFUV). The SPGC Global Summit will be held at EDEM Escuela de Empresarios on April 27-28th, 2023, it will be globally open to all family business scholars and enthusiasts.

While the effects and consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic are still present in our social and economic reality, family businesses are currently dealing with new uncertainties and challenges derived from geopolitical instabilities, rising energy costs, global supply chain disruptions, risks of stagflation, and many other stressors. Regener@tion challenges involve every managerial area in organizations: each re-gener@tion process has, indeed, strategic implications (strategic repertories, strategic changes, organizational reconfigurations, long-term strategic consistency and dependences, strategic innovation); requires strong efforts and strategic leadership; has governance implications, both in the in the family and in the firm, requires talent management and effective Top Management Teams; and more incorporation of digital technologies within the business models. Family Businesses face the challenges of re-gener@tion in many different spheres:

  • family firms need to re-gener@te their business models and effectively manage the innovation and change processes to adapt to the social, technical, and economic changes;
  • the global warming and urgency of environment preservation requires re-gener@ting perspectives in corporate governance practices for family firms to professionalize more than before
  • at the same time business families will continue facing the never-ending challenge of renewing and regener@ting the family transgenerational entrepreneurship spirit, promoting new entrepreneurial initiatives as well as developing practices for effective succession processes.

The STEP Project Global Consortium (SPGC) aims to address the REGENER@TION challenges in a two-day forum targeted both towards scholars interested in Family Business Research, and actors from the managerial practice (managers, owners, executives or any other experts). It will be an innovative research-practice platform to re-gener@te the relationships between practice and academia. This summit is conceived as a world-leading encounter where scholars and practitioners will interact and exchange ideas, in a friendly and constructive climate, to propose, discuss and elaborate proposals aimed to help family firms and business families to tackle the re-gener@tion challenges that they are facing, and to achieve the highest levels of competitiveness, durability, and socially responsible behavior. Below is a visual representation of the different directions the Regener@tion between Academia and Practice will take place during the Global Family Business Summit.
