MU Hybrid Art House

What does it feel like to leave your human perspective and live together as a genetically manipulated human or animal, plant or AI?

[Dutch below] The performative VR experience Symbiosis transports you to a place about 200 years in the future. To a post-human world that has been radically altered by climate change and in which Homo sapiens have been absorbed into a biotope teeming with mixed life-forms: human, animal, and technological hybrids. There is no competition, only symbiosis. The work is inspired by the ideas of biologist &amp; philosopher Donna Haraway, in which humans play a decentralized role and coexist with other species. How will such a speculative world affect future coexistence, legal rights and relationships between humans and all other living entities on a physical, emotional and spiritual level? In Symbiosis, the human body is being redesigned with VR, soft robotics, wearables and smell. The installation engages all your senses, including your taste buds. From Saturday 10 till Sunday 18 April between 13.00 – 17.00 you can experience the installation live at MU. A maximum of 2 people at a time can participate. The experience takes about 30 minutes. If MU is not allowed to open by this time due to COVID-19 restrictions, we will refund your ticket.EXTRA INFO<ul><li> Symbiosis is created by the Dutch interdisciplinary and internationally operating experience design collective Polymorf. The installation was commissioned by STRP and Breda Photo, produced in collaboration with Studio Biarritz and made possible by: NL Film Fund, Creative Industries Fund NL and the Sundance Institute- New Frontier Story Lab program. Specially for Symbiosis, restaurant De Karpendonkse Hoeve created a food design.</li><li>The 2-person installation presented at MU is a preview of the larger project, which will premiere later, at a time and location yet to be determined.</li><li>Note: The appetizers that will be served during the experience are vegan. As a visitor, you become part of the installation through as VR device and a suit specially designed for Symbiosis. All materials will be thoroughly cleaned after every session. Er is geen sprake van competitie, maar slechts symbiose. Het werk is gebaseerd op het gedachtegoed van bioloog &amp; filosoof Donna Haraway, waarin de mens een decentrale rol speelt en gelijkwaardig samenleeft met andere levensvormen. Hoe kan een speculatieve wereld als deze het toekomstige samenleven, wettelijke rechten en relaties tussen mensen en alle andere levende wezens beïnvloeden op fysiek, emotioneel en spiritueel niveau? Door middel van VR, soft robotics, wearables en geur herontwerpt Symbiosis als het ware het lichaam. De installatie zet al je zintuigen aan het werk, inclusief je smaakpapillen. Hoe voelt het om je menselijk perspectief te verlaten en als genetisch gemanipuleerd mens of dier, plant of AI, samen te leven? Van zaterdag 10 t/m zondag 18 april tussen 13.00 en 17.00 ervaar je de installatie live in MU. Er kunnen max. 2 personen tegelijk deelnemen. De ervaring duurt circa 30 minuten. Mocht MU tegen die tijd toch nog niet open zijn ivm COVID-19 maatregelen, dan betalen we je ticket terug. EXTRA INFO<ul><li>Symbiosis is gecreëerd door het ervaringsontwerpcollectief Polymorf. De installatie is tot stand gekomen in opdracht van STRP en Breda Photo, geproduceerd in samenwerking met Studio Biarritz en mede mogelijk gemaakt door: NL Film Fonds, Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie en the Sundance Institute - New Frontier Story Lab program. Speciaal voor Symbiosis ontwierp restaurant De Karpendonkse Hoeve een food design.</li><li>De 2-persoons installatie die in MU wordt gepresenteerd is een preview van het grotere project, dat op een later moment in premiere zal gaan op een nader te bepalen tijd en locatie.</li><li>NB: De hapjes die tijdens de ervaring worden geserveerd zijn veganistisch. We zetten bij MU alle benodigde middelen in om je bezoek zo veilig mogelijk te laten verlopen, in navolging van de COVID-19 maatregelen die vanuit de overheid zijn bepaald.</li></ul>
