<H2>Introducing the symposium 'What makes a criminal?' </H2>
What influences someone to become a criminal? Is it environmental, or genetic, or are there other factors involved?
This exciting symposium is organised by the two research top master programs of the Graduate School of Medical Sciences: Clinical and Psychosocial Epidemiology & Medical and Pharmaceutical Drug Innovation.
Two speakers are featured:
Dr. Tina Kretschmer is an assistant professor and works at the faculty of Behavioral Sciences. She has expertise in genetics of criminal behavior, as well as knowledge about social context that can cause/influence someone to become criminal.
Jelle Lettinga has a background in clinical psychiatry, his main interest is psychopharmacology. He currently works at the Mesdag clinic, a TBS facility. Patients that have been admitted at the Mesdag klinic are both psychiatric patients and convicted criminals. In practice this means that the clinic is both are a prison and a psychiatric hospital. Treatment is focused both on psychiatric disease and prevention of crime/aggression.
