What if we could decode your wellbeing as precisely as your fingerprint?

On the 1st of August 2025 at 12:00 CET, I’ll host a free live webinar titled: "The Algorithm of You: Hyper‑Personalized Wellbeing Models through Artificial Intelligence." This will be a replay of my keynote address at the International Association for Positive Psychology's Conference in Brisbane.

📖 ABSTRACT📖

For decades we've used top-down models like PERMA, the Mental Health Continuum, and many other neat acronyms as frameworks for what wellbeing is or should be. These assume that we (the "experts") understand wellbeing better than those living it. By design, these prescriptive approaches have significant limitations:

1️⃣ there are conceptual redundancies,

2️⃣they are cultural bias, and

3️⃣they over-rely on subjective self-reports.

Worse, it positions wellbeing within a deficit-oriented diagnostic paradigm (analogous to the DSM-5) so that it has its own diagnostic criteria, clinical cutoffs and symptom checklists (which clashes with the growth-oriented nature of positive mental health). The results? Models don’t converge across cultures, interventions that rarely work and a science that increasingly harms the people it’s meant to serve.

In response, we proposed a bottom-up, person-centred approach to wellbeing. Rather than chasing group averages and universal laws, we build hyper-personalised (N-of-1) idiographic wellbeing models from rich narrative data about individuals lived experiences. By using AI-driven natural language processing and machine learning, we can analyse large-scale personal narratives to uncover each individual’s unique wellbeing profile, its drivers (resources), detractors (demands), accelerators (strengths), and buffers… all contextualised within the systemic realities they live in.

By integrating these profiles with more holistic self-assessments of wellbeing (i.e. emotional, psychological, social, financial, cognitive, physical, spiritual, and environmental) alongside objective indicators (e.g. health, employment status, socio-economic factors, safety etc.) we gain a richer, more accurate picture of what it means to flourish for each individual person.

As such, this webinar outlines an idiographic narrative-based, AI-enabled, multi-method framework for creating hyper-personalised wellbeing profiles. We’ll explore methodological and ethical considerations, cross-cultural implications, and the potential for this model to inform more tailored interventions, measurement tools, and policy.

The goal is clear: to move beyond one-size-fits-all approaches and toward wellbeing strategies as unique as the people they’re designed for.
