About this event

  • 2 hours 30 minutes

The Amygdala Sonatas for piano, grit and a dancer are 11 sonatas, each linked to what some call mental disturbances. We call it 'individual strategies to cope with the all-consuming normality'. We are OC/DC. An occasional ensemble that tries to explore the (political) power and beauty of those strategies to emphasize. With performances on a flat floor, whether in a place "affiliated with mental health care", or a "normal venue". Do you see the difference? We embed the sonatas in the story of a good man who wanted to change the world, and (not) survived the madhouse. In what is now Ukraine.

Reinier van Houdt: piano

Dennis Alexander or Guilia PianA: dance

Bas Alblas, double bass

Hansko Visser, compositions, translations, voice and six or seven more or less broken tape decks. Plus, one or more people from the audience who want to draw what is happening.

This project is supported by the Wilhelmina E Jansen Foundation, which helps us collaborate with two Russian artists "in inner and real exile" In consultation, we link part of our fee to a good cause (mental hospital in Dnipro, recently bombed and shelled...)
