The Hague String Trio presenteert een bijzondere, nieuwe cd - Echoes of Budapest - A homage to three friends: drie strijktrio's en een duo, met twee wereldpremières van drie Hongaars-Joodse componisten en levenslange vrienden: Pál Hermann, Zoltán Székely en Géza Frid.

Het album is een hommage aan drie uitzonderlijke musici met een bijzondere vriendschap die ruim honderd jaar geleden in Boedapest begon. Als jonge studenten leerden zij elkaar kennen rond de jaren 1920 aan de Franz Liszt Muziekacademie in Boedapest, waar ze compositie studeerden bij Zoltán Kodály en Béla Bartók en waar ze zich tot meesters op hun instrument, de cello, viool en piano, ontwikkelden.

Al vroeg verlieten zij hun vaderland, trokken door Europa, en belandden alle drie onder meer in Nederland waar ze een belangrijke rol speelden in het Nederlandse muziekleven. Ze trouwden hier, en Székely en Frid woonden er jarenlang. Hermann verbleef in Berlijn, maar reisde vaak naar zijn schoonfamilie in Nederland. Helaas kende zijn leven een tragisch einde, hij overleefde de oorlog niet. Székely en Frid werden na de oorlog Nederlands staatsburgers. Frid bleef tot zijn dood in 1989 in Nederland wonen, Székely emigreerde naar de Verenigde Staten en Canada.

Op het concert zult u een selectie van het repertoire van de nieuwe cd horen en Lex Bohlmeijer zal de presentatie verzorgen. Na afloop heffen we graag het glas met u om te proosten op Echoes of Budapest!

The Hague String Trio presents their latest CD – Echoes of Budapest – A homage to three friends: three string trios and a duo, including two world premieres by three Hungarian-Jewish composers and lifelong friends: Pál Hermann, Zoltán Székely, and Géza Frid.

The album is a tribute to three exceptional musicians whose remarkable friendship began over a hundred years ago in Budapest.

As young students, they met around the beginning of the 1920s at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, where they studied composition under Zoltán Kodály and Béla Bartók and and rose to prominence as masters of their respective instruments: cello, violin, and piano.

They left their homeland at an early age, travelled through Europe, and eventually all three settled in the Netherlands, where they played a significant role in Dutch musical life. They married there, and Székely and Frid lived in the country for many years. Hermann resided in Berlin but often visited his in-laws in the Netherlands. Sadly, his life ended tragically; he did not survive the war. Székely and Frid became Dutch citizens after the war. Frid remained in the Netherlands until his death in 1989, while Székely emigrated to the United States and Canada.

At the presentation concert, a selection of the recorded works will be performed, introduced by Lex Bohlmeijer, radio presenter, interviewer, and journalist, well known to many for his wonderful programmes on NPO Klassiek. After the concert, there will be an opportunity to purchase the CD, and we warmly invite you to raise a glass with us in a toast to Echoes of Budapest!

De Paleiskerk ligt in het centrum van Den Haag, vlakbij Paleis Noordeinde. De locatie is goed bereikbaar met openbaar vervoer.

Parkeergelegenheid

In de straten rond de Paleiskerk geldt betaald parkeren (ma-za van 9 tot 24 uur, zo van 13 tot 24 uur). In de directe omgeving van de kerk vindt u meerdere parkeergarages. De dichtstbijzijnde zijn: Parkstraat parkeergarage (op 100m afstand in de Oranjestraat 15) en parkeergarage Q-Park Noordeinde (op 250m afstand in de Heulstraat 23).

Ticket Sales

Tickets are available for purchase online and at the box office on the day of the concert. The ticket price includes one beverage: coffee or tea upon arrival, or a drink afterwards.

Accessibility

The Paleiskerk is located in the centre of The Hague, close to Noordeinde Palace. The venue is easily accessible by public transport.

Tram 16 and 17, get off at Buitenhof stop (4-minute walk)

Parking

Paid parking applies in the streets around the Paleiskerk (Monday to Saturday from 9 AM to midnight, Sunday from 1 PM to midnight). There are several parking garages in the immediate vicinity of the church. The closest ones are: Parkstraat Parking Garage (100 meters away at Oranjestraat 15) and Q-Park Noordeinde Garage (250 meters away at Heulstraat 23).
