Paviljoen Ongehoorde Muziek

The Maciunas Ensemble was founded in 1968 by Paul Panhuijsen, Jan van Riet and Remco Scha. At every musical gathering, the ensemble adds something to the score “Music for Every- man” by George Maciunas, founder of the Fluxus movement.“Music for Everyman” consists of all sounds that are made or will be made in the past, present and future by all living beings and dead materials.At the moment the Maciunas Ensemble consists of Jan van Riet, Leon van Noorden (since 1972), Mario van Horrik (since 1982) and Raven van Noorden (from 2019). The background and in- terests of the group members are folk music, classical music, improvisation, rock and roll, sound art, visual arts, graphic design, physics and auditory perception. Each music session is recorded and the recordings are discussed and evaluated by the ensemble.In the early days, the group improvised and had a varying line-up at the time. In the 1980s the group consisted of the permanent core of Jan van Riet, Paul Panhuijsen, Leon van Noorden and Mario van Horrik. During that period, the rhythmic drone pieces, such as those on the au- dio cassettes “YoplaBoum” (1983) and “Permanent Wave” (1984) were issued by the Apollohuis. In the 80s and 90s more conceptual pieces and pieces in the tradition of the Fluxus movement were also conceived.From about 2000 until the death of Paul Panhuijsen in 2015 and afterwards, attention was divided between cataloging the extensive archive of recordings and returning to free improvisation. In 2012, a 12-CD box set: “The Archives Part 1 1968-1980” was released. The recordings from 1980 are largely archived and will be made public. In 2021, the Berlin record label Edition Telemark decided to release the audio cassettes “YoplaBoum” and “Permanent Wave” to be reissued in the form of a double LP and CD. <a href="http://www.edition-telemark.de/923.08.html " target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">http://www.edition-telemark.de/923.08.html </a>To promote and celebrate this unique release, the Maciunas Ensemble will perform at the POM in Eindhoven on Saturday 2 April. The program consists of the following parts: “East Indian Calypso”, from the original audio cassette - “Permanent Wave” - “Blowing”, in the Fluxus tradition - “Russolution”, concept by Leon van Noorden - “Improvisation”, free improvisation.
