Why does the design sprint process matter?

Innovation projects are costly and time consuming. Most projects move from ideating new solutions to building them, launching them and then learn from their users.

Many teams get trapped in the building phase. Deadlines are set and reset. Technical surprises and unexpected delays frustrate the team.

Projects can drag on and on until the team motivation reaches subzero levels.

Everybody engaged in innovation efforts knows by now the importance of validating assumptions as early as possible. But how to go about this, often remains the question?

Enter: the design sprint process

The design sprint process is a time effective and cheap answer to the how-question of assumption validation.

It enables a team to define a clear goal and learn from failure as soon as possible. And it takes less then a week to complete.

The process was originially invented by Jake Knapp, John Zeratsky and Braden Kowitz from Google Ventures. Google Ventures needed a cheap and efficient method to test the value propositions of the Startups they invest in.

In 2016 Jake, John and Braden published the book "Sprint". Since then, many companies big and small started to change the way they develop new products.
