<h1>Join the Robotics Challenge at The STEM Embassy's Hackathon: Sustainability in Motion</h1>The STEM Embassy’s Hackathon: Sustainability in Motion will take place on Aruba on April 29th to May 1st! We ask Afl. 30,- per participant to attend the event. Below you will find a description of the event and payment instructions. <h2>About the event</h2>The “Sustainability in Motion” Robotics Challenge is a 3-day challenge designed for high school students ages 14 to 18, where they are tasked with coming up with a design of a new sustainable transport system for Aruba (i.e. an electric tram line or hydrogen busses).This type of challenge is called a “Hackathon”. Several teams will take part in the challenge where they will compete, as well as work together.⚙️ They will spend the first day following workshops and setting up their robots. These workshops will be given by professionals in their fields.🤖On the second day they will complete the robot build and finish programming it. They will also perform a test to see if everything works.🏆 On the third day, the official challenge will take place. There will be a big arena where the participating teams will complete a series of challenges and earn points from the panel of judges.The winners of this challenge will have a chance to represent Aruba at the 2024 FIRST Global Challenge. This September, the competition is taking place in Athens, Greece! To participate, participants must be at least 14 years old and enrolled in a high school (voortgezet onderwijs). <h3>So, What's a "Hackathon"?</h3>At a hackathon, programmers, designers, and other tech enthusiasts collaborate intensively on projects, often software or hardware prototypes, over a short period, typically ranging from a day to a week. The goal is to create innovative solutions to specific challenges or simply explore new ideas in a creative and fast-paced environment. They’re popular in tech organizations, companies, schools, and universities worldwide. <h2>The program</h2><h3>Date, Time and Location</h3>Monday, April 29Check-in, event opening and workshops.8 AM to 5:30 PMUniversity of Aruba, J. Follow us on our socials to stay up to date.Lunch and workshop materials are included! <h2>Participation Requirements</h2>It is preferred for you to apply as a complete team of minimum 3 and maximum 5 high school students between the ages of 14 and 18. We are also accepting individual applications as well.Participants must be at least 14 years old and enrolled in a high school (voortgezet onderwijs).There is no restriction on the level of education (MAVO/HAVO/VWO/Other), and your team members don’t all have to be from the same school.No prior robotics experience is needed, only motivation and willingness to learn! <h2>How to apply and pay: Step-by-step</h2><h3>1. Application via Eventbrite</h3>We will be selecting teams consisting of 3-5 participants as well as solo participants. A total of 10 teams will be able to participate in the hackathon, so unfortunately we will not be able to accept all participants.<ul><li>For Team Applications: If you are applying with your team of 3 to 5 people, please select the "Team" ticket option during registration. Fill in the information of each participant separately.</li><li>For Solo Applications: If you are applying on your own, choose the "Solo" ticket option. Fill in the participant's information.</li></ul> Critical Application QuestionAs part of your application, we ask a crucial question that helps us in our selection process. Based on the answers, we will be selecting the teams who will compete in the “Sustainability in Motion” Challenge. Please fill this question in carefully using 50-150 words.“What do you think the biggest problem on Aruba is at the moment and how would you solve it?” <h3>2. Wait on confirmation &amp; payment</h3>After registering through Eventbrite, you will receive a confirmation of your order (note: this is not yet a confirmation of registration). Please note that this does not guarantee your participation. We will review the answers, and you will hear back from us if you were selected to participate.If you have been selected, you will receive further details on the payment in a registration confirmation email.If are not selected, not to worry! We will be organizing more events like this in the future, and you are welcome to register. <h3>3. Payment confirmation</h3>Once your payment is completed and confirmed, you will receive a payment confirmation email within 5 working days.Note: Payment must be completed within 7 days of receiving the Eventbrite confirmation email of your accepted registration. Your participation is only guaranteed after payment is confirmed.Payments are non-refundable once received. <h2>Scholarship</h2>One of The STEM Embassy’s core values is to be open to all. If the participation fee constrains you from participating in this event, then we don’t want that to be the reason you miss out!
