A group show
The Table is a group exhibition presenting Javed Akhtar, Carlota Guerrero, Linnea Skoglösa, Yumna Al-Arashi, Wiebke Mertens, Florence Reekie, Alejandro de Javaloyas, Leslie Bertho and Gvantsa Jishkariani.
This exhibition began on a walk in the dunes, in conversation with a friend at PAX -a Dutch peace organisation -who, despite brutal budget cuts, has spent a decade trying to mobilise diplomacy, pushing tech leaders to embed basic human rights into the systems they build. There are, at this moment, roughly five seats at the table that matter most. Five men- billionaire tech entrepreneurs in charge of the leading AI systems -who are deciding what the future of human civilisation will look like. Moving faster than they can grasp. Faster, certainly, than the rest of us can respond. And in that speed, the questions that most urgently need asking -about rights, about dignity, about who this future is actually for- are being left behind.
The Table begins here. With that image. With the question of who gets a seat, who sets the menu- and the rest of us standing outside. But there is another table. The one around which people have been breaking bread for almost as long as we have been human. The table of shared meals and unguarded conversation. This one belongs to no one. It cannot be owned, tokenised, or scaled. Our own artist dinners have shown us what happens when people gather around it with a shared love for art: a particular kind of openness emerges- a willingness to sit with complexity, to meet a different viewpoint with curiosity rather than judgment. At a time when so many remain locked inside their own funnels, that has become quietly radical.
The works in this exhibition move between the political and the domestic, the systemic and the intimate- between who decides our collective future and how we take care of each other in the present.
We are not offering answers. We are setting a place.
