The Trouble With Normal: Reflections on Bodies

We provide our community members with personal and professional growth opportunities and create a space in which young people are empowered to take action through:The Transformative Education Format, which provides our members with tools to deconstruct the cause of a social and/or environmental issue from critical, multidisciplinary perspectives. Specifically, we aim to provide a space for decolonial education, critical thinking and accountability.The Starter Pack Format, which provides hands-on skills for young people who want to take action. We aim to strengthen young change makers capacities, for example through leadership, marketing, fundraising or impact assessment workshops.The Pitch Night Format, which provides a link between young people and potential employers/initiatives. We aim to facilitate more equitable access to internship opportunities, volunteer work and board positions. Moreover, young talent from our network can assist in accelerating existing social initiatives/startups.

YOUth ACT

YOUth ACT will be hosting a reflective and interactive Zoom session on what it means to be a person of size in the Netherlands.

Challenging the way fatness is viewed, the conversation will question what we understand as normal bodies and how such an understanding affects everyday life and institutions. What do fatphobia and thin privilege mean? Together with a researcher from Utrecht University and an activist from Dikke Vinger, we will reflect on our own experiences and our own bodies - what everyday activities inconvenience you -, as well as on size as a dimension of intersectionality. <a href="https://www.youthact.net/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">YOUth ACT</a> is a student run, community-based hub for youth activism and entrepreneurship in Amsterdam with the aim to offer potential activists and entrepreneurs opportunities to acquire practical skills, develop actionable ideas, and diversify their network.NEDERLANDSYOUth ACT organiseert een reflectieve en interactieve Zoom-sessie over de significatie om een persoon van ‘size’ te zijn in Nederland. Het gesprek gaat over de manier waarop we tegen ‘overgewicht’ zijn aankijken en zal vragen oproepen over hoe zo&#x27;n begrip het dagelijks leven en de instellingen beïnvloedt. Wat betekenen vetfobie en dun voorrecht? Samen met een onderzoeker van de Universiteit Utrecht en een activiste van @dikkevingerorg , zullen we reflecteren op onze eigen ervaringen en onze eigen lichamen - welke alledaagse activiteiten storen je -, evenals op grootte als een dimensie van ‘intersectionality’.
