Villains as Muse: The Good in Being Bad 😈📚✍️
This is part of the Monthly Writer’s Room series at CultureHub, Rotterdam.
This month we will have an embodied writing session from the dark side of the story.
What happens when we stop judging our villains and start listening to them?In this month’s Writer’s Room, we explore the shadowy, magnetic, and misunderstood forces that push our stories forward or pull them deliciously off course.
Villainy isn’t just about evil. It can be ambition, resistance, desire, or defiance. Sometimes it’s the inner voice that dares to say no. Sometimes it’s the fire that drives the entire plot. Whether you're drawn to the charming manipulator, the righteous avenger, or the soft-spoken schemer, this session invites you to explore what villainy reveals about power, motive, and voice.
What to expect:
- First, we read. Bring whatever book you're into and settle into one hour of quiet, collective presence.
- Then, we write. You’ll move through three to four guided prompts using sensory and embodied experience to unlock layered characters, emotional tension, and the thrill of rule-breaking energy. The workshop is held in English, but you’re welcome to write in whatever language feels like home. There’s no pressure to share your work. This space is yours to explore, reflect, and create in whatever way feels right.
Come with curiosity. Leave with surprising insights, rich language, or the beginning of something bold. Whether you write fiction, memoir, poetry, or journal for yourself, all forms and levels are welcome.
