On Black Imagination/Black World-making
With special guest Lewis R. Gordon, Amal Alhaag, Mitchell Esajas, Grace Ndjako and Ebissé Wakjira
SNAP Talks is a series of gatherings that centralize the conversation around imagination and the way it shapes artistic, thought and activist practices in the everyday, communal, institutional and political domains of life. During this upcoming gathering, Professor Lewis Gordon joins us for an evening where we think, speak and listen alongside his latest book, Fear of Black Consciousness, and the historical development of racialized Blackness and the larger issues this type of consciousness leads to. Gordon also discusses the responses Black and non-Black communities display in contemporary struggles for dignity and freedom.
In this conversation, we also consider the possibilities of Black world building across differences, music and languages—what strategies Black consciousness and activism need to sustain and make a different world possible in and beyond the 21st century.
