Talks:

Mikhail Shilkov | Cloud Infrastructure as C# and F#

Modern cloud platforms offer amazing capabilities for application developers. Cloud apps utilize multiple services and consist of many components, so they are hard to manage without employing Infrastructure as Code.

Traditional tools like CloudFormation, ARM templates, and Terraform use text-based formats, which tend to be tedious, repetitive, and cumbersome to reuse.

What if instead of configuration files you could use your favourite programming languages like C# or F#? See how you can bring your developer tools like code completion, types, components, and abstractions to cloud infrastructure definition.

Erwin Staal | Serverless functions everywhere with OpenFaas

OpenFaaS is a framework for building Serverless applications. It makes it really simple to turn anything into a serverless function that runs on Linux or Windows through Docker Swarm or Kubernetes. By using one of these orchestrators you can now run serverless functions on your own private cloud or in any public cloud such as Azure by using AKS. And since it’s based on Docker containers it doesn’t matter if you want to use Go, Java, Python, C#, Django, ASP.NET Core, or anything else. In this session I’ll introduce you to serverless and OpenFaas. We will see how simple it is to get OpenFaas up and running and to deploy your first function written in C# using .Net Core. As a bonus, I will bring my Raspberry Pi Kubernetes cluster and show you how to run OpenFaas on ARM.

Stacy Cashmore | Embrace the pitfalls (Our stop start journey to Change)

As developers we want to work in a modern way, to get fast feedback on what we are building to make sure that we are building the right things in the right way. However, many companies are still at the start of their journey. Things take longer than we would like to get moving, sometimes change can seem to happen at glacial pace and whilst you are ready to try and run, others are finding their feet - or even digging in their heels! In this talk I will go over some of the pitfalls that have happened to me, and the lessons that I have learned from them. What I don't really have are magic solutions to make the problems go away, but hopefully you can look at the mistakes I made and go away to make your own new ones to learn from!
