Avalanche Safety Lecture
Evenementdetails
Over dit evenement
An avalanche safety lecture for skiers and snowboarders, presented by Lavinprognoser and Sveriges Lavinutbildningar – a branch of the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. The event is hosted by KTH Outdoor Club and Klättercentret Akalla.
Travelling in the backcountry can be one of the most rewarding things to do in life. Powder snow, sunshine and beautiful mountain scenery simply are desired parts of any backcountry experience. The reward is high. However, the mountain environment can be harsh and unforgiving. Many hazards are present and those who wish to safely venture out, need to be well-informed, prepared and able to manage the risk.
Since the consequences of avalanches can be fatal, making the right decisions most of the time is not good enough. The mountain environment is complex and to travel safely in avalanche terrain is not easy. Learning when and where to go to is the key to successful mountain travel. It is possible to avoid the hazardous terrain, while still getting a good day (and a tomorrow) in the field.
During this lecture you will get advice on how to prepare yourself for safe backcountry travel. We will also share some thoughts around how to be avalanche aware and provide methods for improved risk management and decision making in the mountains.
