BAU zal op 28 november 2019 een informele presentatie geven van de resultaten van het BAU LAB BioArt meets Performance. Voorafgaand aan de presentatie brengen we in een vierdaagse performance laboratory vier specialisten uit het veld van de BioArt, wetenschappers en beeldend kunstenaars samen met een groep van twaalf choreografen en performance makers. Het veld van BioArt, waarin levende materie zoals bacteriën en micro-organismen worden gebruikt om de impact van biotechnologie en wetenschap op onze hedendaagse samenleving en cultuur te onderzoeken, zal gekoppeld worden aan de podiumkunsten. Het doel is om te zien hoe het samenbrengen van deze twee disciplines nieuwe perspectieven kan creëren over het lichaam en levende materie.

Kuang-Yi Ku, Pei-Ying Lin, Arjen Mulder en Lotte Pet worden uitgenodigd om inzicht te geven in hun werkpraktijk in de BioArt om als inspiratie te dienen voor het materiaal dat gedurende de dagen gecreëerd wordt door de choreografen en performance makers. De resultaten van vier dagen lang experimenteren zullen in de vorm van korte performances gepresenteerd worden.

BAU is een platform voor de innovatie en ontwikkeling van dans en performance. We proberen onder andere ruimte te claimen voor het experiment, zoals het tweejaarlijks organiseren van de BAU LAB’s. Deze tweejaarlijkse labs zijn bedoeld om een kruisbestuiving te stimuleren tussen dans en performance en andere disciplines.

Prior to this presentation we will bring four specialists from the field of BioArt, scientists and visual artists together with a group of twelve choreographers and performance makers during a four-day performance laboratory.

The field of BioArt, in which living matter such as bacteria and microorganisms are used to discover the impact of biotechnology and science on our contemporary society and culture, will be linked to the performing arts to investigate how the meeting of these two disciplines can create new perspectives about both the body and living matter.

Kuang-Yi Ku, Pei-Ying Lin, Arjen Mulder and Lotte Pet are invited to provide insight into their BioArt practices which will serve as inspiration for the choreographers and performance makers who will create material during the days. The results of these four days of experimentation will be presented in the form of short performances.

BAU is a platform for innovation and development in dance and performance in Amsterdam. We claim space for experimentation, such as organizing BAU LABs. These labs are held twice a year and are intended to stimulate a cross-fertilization between dance and performance, and other disciplines.
