Body Building, discovering the parallel lives of Clarice Lispector and Lina Bo Bardi


BODY BUILDING is a collaborative project that proposes an intersection between Lina Bo Bardi and Clarice Lispector. Both were part of the construction of a new radical language in Brazil from the 1950s to the 1980s while the country was going through intense political unrest. In architecture and literature respectively, they produced works that redefined structural and linear parameters. Using the theatre as a medium, BODY BUILDING focuses on bringing together two different kinds of works: the Teatro Oficina, by Lina Bo Bardi and Edson Elito from the early 80s, and Clarice Lispector’s short story ‘The Egg and the Chicken’ (O Ovo e a Galinha) first published in 1964. This evening at Het Nieuwe Instituut is built as an experimental and research session where experts on both Lina Bo Bardi and Clarice Lispector will speculate on their similarities, differences and common interests. Joana Mederios, actor at Teatro Oficina, together with artist Nicolau Vergueiro and Cookies are preparing a performance that will channel both figures, followed by a panel conversation.
