Make a cup of coffee and learn about the history of Javanese traditional bamboo coffee drip culture

Artist Arie Syarifuddin will unfold The Untold History of Javanese Bamboo Coffee. He will be revisiting the long journey of Koffie-Stelsel in Java as an attempt to reveals the part of untold history of Javanese traditional bamboo coffee drip culture. The conical coffee dripper made from bamboo has long being used locally to make coffee before coffee drinking was introduced by the Dutch in the 17th century. He will show and use an environmental friendly bamboo filter coffee dripper. No more coffee filter paper waste, because this filter is reusable. Visitors are welcome to make a cup of traditional coffee through the manual process, from roasting raw green coffee bean, grinding the roasted bean to seeping boiled water through the ground coffee drip at this project, which includes a workshop on manual drip coffee process followed by a Drip Championship.

Arie Syarifuddin studied economics at the University of Majalenka and is affiliated as a curator and artist to the Jatiwangi Art Factory in the city of Jatiwangi in West Java, which is Indonesia’s roof tile manufacturing centre. In 2015 Syarifuddin was Age of Wonderland fellow.

This Day of Learning is organized in collaboration with the Student Hotel, Eindhoven.

Age of Wonderland 2017 presents 100 DAYS OF LEARNING, a global learning event to exchange valuable life experiences with peers. Visit the Age of Wonderland Talks, every morning from Saturday 21 to Sunday 29 October. Age of Wonderland’s Arne Hendriks receives surprising guests on his sofa to talk about 100 DAYS OF LEARNING. Themes that will be addressed include activism, energy, ecology, learning-by-doing, society, intimacy, empathy and empowerment. The talk show is in English.

In Natlab, all insights of 100 DAYS OF LEARNING are shown in a visual presentation. Our host are more than willing to tell visitors about the projects.
