Over D. Denenge Duyst-Akpem

D. Denenge Duyst-Akpem is ontwerper, kunstenaar en auteur. In haar werk verkent zij Afrofuturisme via kunst, design en performance. Ze onderzoekt thema’s als water, geluid, identiteit en representatie, en legt verbanden tussen Afrikaanse diasporische en inheemse mythologieën. Duyst-Akpems praktijk vormt een brug tussen onderzoek en creatieve expressie en nodigt het publiek uit om in gesprek te gaan met geschiedenissen van beweging, transformatie en mogelijkheden.

Designer, artist, and author D. Denenge Duyst-Akpem invites you on a deep dive into the watery worlds of Afrofuturity—a creative exploration of the past, present, and possible futures.

Connecting her Camo Coat Collection garments featured in the exhibition with her catalog essay, Duyst-Akpem traces African Diasporic and Indigenous aquatic mythologies that flow into Titanic & Fashion: The Last Dance, touching on themes of water, sound, migration, and visibility.

In this multimedia online presentation, Duyst-Akpem is joined by Madelief Hohe, Curator of Fashion at Kunstmuseum Den Haag, for an inspiring conversation and live audience Q&A.
