At this conference, the DATAstudio will share the preliminary conclusions from its programme of the past two years. We’ve sought to answer the question: How should a technologically “smart” participatory city look? In other words: How do you design a smart society? At the DATAstudio, we believe it’s all about making data valuable, legible and usable in relation to citizens’ questions and needs.

We’ll address two pertinent questions at the conference. First, how can data flows in public space be made more visible and legible so they can become the subject of public discussion and public applications? Second, how can citizens get more input and influence with regard to issues in the city that concern them through access to relevant (and legible and usable) data?

In a concluding talk and discussion, we’ll attempt to sketch a realistic yet ambitious picture of how we might move forward toward a smart society.

Met deze conferentie trekt de DATAstudio de voorlopige conclusies uit haar programma van de afgelopen twee jaar. Een antwoord op de vraag hoe een stad er uit zou zien die tegelijkertijd (technisch) slim én participatief is? Hoe zou – kortom- een slimme samenleving in elkaar moeten zitten? De stelling van DATAstudio: het draait allemaal om de kwaliteit, leesbaarheid en de bruikbaarheid van data in verband met de vragen en behoeften van burgers.

Tijdens de conferentie richten we ons op twee vragen op dit gebied. Ten eerste: hoe kunnen datastromen in de openbare ruimte zichtbaarder en leesbaarder worden gemaakt, zodat ze onderwerp van publiek debat en publieke toepassingen kunnen worden?

Ten tweede: hoe kunnen burgers meer zeggenschap en invloed verwerven op stedelijke vragen die hen aangaan door toegang tot relevante (en lees- en bruikbare) data?

In een afsluitende lezing en discussie proberen we tot een realistisch maar ambitieus beeld van de mogelijke ontwikkelingen te komen richting de smart society.
