A workshop from innoApproach about how to create ideas given by Marijn van der Poll

Over dit evenement

TU/e innovation Space organizes tailored workshops in which you can actively develop your personal as well as professional skills right when you need it. These workshops are tailored to all the courses that are running this quartile in innovation Space. Topics are very broad; from teamwork to project management, to creative thinking, prototyping, etc. This enhances on you and your fellow students’ learning process and helps to better perform while doing your project.

The innoApproach workshops are planned in the 9th and 10th hour (17:30-19:15).

This workshop, Marijn teaches you about how to get the roots of an idea and how to create one. How is that idea connected to its source - you?

We are one step removed from being ‘idea-dyslexic’, as in, we can’t explain what that term even means. It certainly explains why we believe ideas are supposed to just appear to us, in the shower. For all of the business processes that deal with ‘creativity’ and complex problems, cognitive flexibility, even scrum and design thinking, we have no firm grasp of the foundational element that is ‘the idea’. No definition, no language no grammar. And no appreciation of how an idea is connected to its source - you. This workshop targets corporate workers as well as new college graduates and students of any discipline, (anyone except a self-professed ‘creative’ basically), who are curious about understanding the roots of ‘the idea’, in order to be competent in their own personal ideation process. In terms of thought, ideas are the yin (inhalation, inspiration) to the rational yang (exhalation, action). Marijn van der Poll founded his multidisciplinary design studio in 2000. His designs have been published in leading magazines such as Wallpaper and Domus. His work has been shown in museums around the world including the Victoria&Albert Museum in London and the Kunsthal in Rotterdam and is part of the collections of amongst others the San Francisco MOMA. TIME magazine voted his design Do hit as a collectable design must have. He also advises governmental organisations like the Dutch Association of Municipalities and the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure on social design and innovation. In 2010 he was co curator of the internationally renowned Dutch Design Week. He is a permanent faculty member at the Design Academy Eindhoven. He holds a BA in Industrial Design from the Design Academy and a MSc from the University of Nebraska.
