Jiajia Qi - A Hundred Hours of Night

Over dit evenement
Jiajia Qi is currently Billytown's artist in residence via the Mondriaan Fund. We are excited to show her new series of works in the gallery space. The exhibition can be viewed from the inside as well as from the outside and unfolds a play of light and color reflections, especially during and after twilight. Throughout the exhibition period, the installation will continue to develop.
In her current research, Jiajia aims to develop a series of works that create an anti-metaphorical and neutral surrounding. An invitation to the viewer to surrender in a moment of incomprehension of what is happening. But be aware that there is something meaningful here. By reassembling the relations among spatial structures, the artist creates a series of site-specific installations with sculptural elements and body performances. Within this framework, natural aspects such as the sense of direction, the rhythm of daytime, the gravity of transient light, and the density of unpredictable weather begin to reshuffle in the space. Out of this first setting, the artist challenges our comprehension of daily life experiences and how they serve to act logically and make predictions in our surroundings.
