'Leviathan' tells the story of Kolya, a man living in a Russian coastal town, who is forced to fight the corrupt mayor when he is told that his house will be demolished. He recruits a lawyer friend to help, but his arrival brings further misfortune for Kolya and his family. The film deals with some of the most important social issues of contemporary Russia - but unfortunately these 'evil forces' are not exclusive of one country, but inside all humans. The English philosopher Thomas Hobbes, who wrote a book also with the title 'Leviathan', made famous an old roman-latin quote: "Man is wolf to man".

How does it look a world where humans behave as predators to each other? Can human race defeat the 'Leviathan' (destructive powers)? Or do we have to just accept 'the survival of the fittest'?

This movie has won many prizes, including the 2014 Cannes award for Best Screenplay and the Best Foreign Language Film award at the 72nd Golden Globes.
