Beschrijving

Charles Bukowski - called the ‘laureate of American lowlife’ - chronicled his personal experience as a member of the American underclass in the depraved metropolitan environment of his native Los Angeles. His poetry and novels explore violence, substance abuse, alcoholism and sexual imagery. Bukowski hard exterior often gives way to a softer aesthetic in his poetry. American music by Copland, Carter and Muczynski from the neo-classical through the avant-garde frames Bukowski’s poetry and prose.

Readings: Emlyn Stam (English)

Music: James Meldrum clarinet and Maciej Kassak piano perform Copland, Carter and Muczynski
