Beschrijving

The Belgian writer Charlotte van den Broeck (born 1991) published her second book of poetry Nachtroer in 2017. The poems are like nomadic journeys. The book is named after a night shop in Antwerpen that forms the departure point for the poems that are connected as part of a journey detailing love, loss and estragement. Bassonist Amber Mallee performs works for bassoon solo and bassoon and piano mirroring the mysterious night journey in the poetry. The sorrowful Elegie by Jacques Hétu alongside works by the Hungarian composer Gyögry Kurta and Japanese composer Toshio Hosokawa.

“With poetic imagery she searchers for awe and silence. What makes this cycle powerful is the way recognizable images and language are welded together with great speed resulting in a kind of suffocation.”
-NRC
