* In ‘Manual’ (2002), their painstakingly edited study of stimulus and response, the artist blend two genres – melodrama and science fiction film – juxtaposing magnified emotion with absolute detachment in doing so. Revolving around the blind spots between self-perception and the perception of others, the flickering images of ‘Contre-jour’ (2009) let the viewer experience blindness – and see what is not there. ‘Locomotive’ (2008) sets off on a phantom ride across some of the most frequently recurring topoi in the history of moving images by arranging train scenes from hundreds of feature films in a lush triple screen composition. While in Girardet's own ‘Dirigible’ (2012) images of airships are condensed into a deam-like narrative dealing with the shortcomings of real and cinematographic expeditions, Müller's diaristic ‘Album’ (2004) accompanies an invisible flaneur on his walk down memory lane.
