What you will learn during the intensive three day workshop is the method that Rembrandt used to create his paintings. You will be using the same colours and materials that he used. On the first day you will make a small master copy study of one of Rembrandt's works. You should then be warmed up for the second day with the live model in classical clothing and chiaroscuro lighting. The student must complete the final painting, from the grisaille to the last layers during these last two days. With two instructors present who have both been trained at a classical art academy, there will be plenty of personalised guidance and instruction for each student. If you want to learn how Rembrandt painted, or how to paint from life in oil paint with a live model present this course is perfect for you. Your level of experience isn’t important for this masterclass, however your dedication to improve your skill are!

About Instructor Anouk Bijsterbosch:

Anouk Bijsterbosch is a painter dedicated to the realistic tradition: figures, portraits and landscapes. She works with natural light, live model set-ups and en-plein-air. "I am greatly inspired by the masters of Impressionism and Realism, painters such as Sargent, Zorn, Israels, Repin, Serov, Levitan, Monet.” She studied Fine Art in Groningen (NL) and at the Florence Classical Arts Academy in Florence, Italy. Currently she is working in Holland as a professional artist. Her works are included in the collection of the Russian Academy's Fund and in private collections in Athens (Greece), Dubai (United Arab Emitates), Ghent (Belgium), Amsterdam (NL). In 2018 she participated in Art Capital in Le Grand Palais Paris, and her work will be on exhibitions in Florence and China.

About Instructor Lydia Szubert:

Lydia Szubert is a classically trained oil painter. She is inspired by the drama and passion found in baroque paintings and the beauty in Pinos boudoir paintings. Currently she is working on her collection “modern women creating the classical nude”. She has trained in classical painting in Florence Italy and it's her goal in life to continue on this magnificent tradition and craftmanship. Her work has been present in exhibitions in Rijswijk, Landsmeer and Hengelo.
