De meester van Schaduw en Licht weer tot leven wekken om één laatste portret te creëren. Alleen deze keer is data de schilder en technologie het penseel. The Next Rembrandt vervaagt de grens tussen kunst en technologie door een schilderij in 3D te printen, op basis van data uit Rambrandts oeuvre. Het schilderij werd gecreëerd door middel van 'deep learning algorithmes' en 'facial recognition' technieken.

Filmmaaktster Julliette Stevens is aanwezig om te vertellen over het maak proces.

Daarnaast wordt de film omlijst door een gesprek en discussie met Julia Janssen, een design onderzoekster met een achtergrond in grafisch ontwerp, afgestudeerd aan ArtEZ in Arnhem.

In haar onderzoek focussed Julia zich voornamelijk op nieuw economische en financiële systemen en de impact van technologie op onze huidige en toekomstige samenleving.

De avond wordt geopend met een korte rondleiding op de bijzondere lokatie Het Ontdekstation013, daar waar kinderen spelenderwijs allerlei facetten van techniek ontdekken. Zo ook kan een kijkje genomen worden in Vincent's Tekenlokaal, een plek waar tekenen en techniek samen komen.

How can big data and cutting edge technology be incorporated in the creation and appreciation of art? The Next Rembrandt is a project that connects Rembrandt's genius with today's knowledge. The end result is not just a unique painting that is both of the 17th and the 21st century. It allows inisghts into the long-gone mind of a legendary artist, and also poses questions about the possibilities and limitations of art and technology today.

We will discuss the topic and short film with film maker Juliette Stevens and with Julia Janssen, a design researcher with a background in graphic design, graduated at the ArtEZ Institute of Arts in Arnhem (2016).

Studio Julia Janssen is a freelance studio for graphic design and design research. Her research mainly focusses on new economic- and financial systems, and the impact of technology on our current and future society.

In her projects, Janssen combines research and science with speculations and fiction to create different perspectives on current developments.
