De achttiende training als onderdeel van Trainings for the Not-Yet en is met Urban Front(David Harvey en Miguel Robles-Durán). De training zal zijn op 5 december 2019 (donderdag) en is gefocust op dialoog, seminar, tekenen en schrijven om nieuwe organisatorische vormen te bedenken die kunnen inbreken op de bestaande stedelijke bestuursstructuren.

Deze training vormt een pleidooi voor de urgente vorming van wat Urban Front aanduidt als ‘parallelle stedelijke praktijken’. Het onderwerp van de training is de structurele en conceptuele problematiek van actuele stedenbouw: de toename van fragmentatie, scheiding en disintegratie die zich manifesteert in ons begrip van de stad. Deze fragmentatie geeft aan dat er een gebrek is aan een samenbindende theorie of een coherent stelsel van kennis over hoe de stedelijke ruimte door het kapitalisme gebruikt en geproduceerd wordt.

Urbant Front biedt in deze trainingen een radicale herziening van de intellectuele arbeidsdeling die bepaalt hoe steden in het actuele kapitalisme voortgebracht en vormgegeven worden. Hierbij wordt architectuur, landschapsarchitectuur, stedelijke planning en overige gevestigde disciplines die de fragmentatie van de gebouwde omgeving in de hand werken herzien; en alle gevestigde disciplinaire specialismen die ervoor zorgen dat niet-geprivilegieerde gemeenschappen beroofd worden van hun recht om te weten en te beslissen over hun leefomgeving.

In de training zal overzicht geboden worden om het relationele karakter van verstedelijkingsprocessen beter te begrijpen; over hoe je succesvol transdisciplinaire kennis kunt vormen en overdragen; over dialectisch denken en historisch en geografisch onderzoek vanuit een materialistische benadering. Daarnaast schept de training gelegenheid voor gesprekken over innovatieve en experimentele maatschappelijke interventies en praktijken in New York, Barcelona, Puerto Rico en Quito waar het, door te leren van de gemeenschap en bestaande ervaringen te benutten, mogelijk was om vorm te geven aan concrete anti-kapitalistische interventies waaraan een breed spectrum aan publieke en private partijen deelnam.

The eighteenth training as part of the Trainings for the Not-Yet is with Urban Front(David Harvey and Miguel Robles-Durán), and takes place on 5 December 2019 (Thursday). This training focuses on dialogue, seminar, drawing, and writing to conceive new organizational forms that can disrupt, co-opt, and penetrate existing urban governance structures.

This training calls for the urgent formation of what Urban Front calls “parallel urban practices,” while taking aim at the structural and conceptual problem of contemporary urbanism: the increasing fragmentation, separation, and disintegration of an understanding of the city. This fragmentation indicates the lack of a unifying theory or coherent body of knowledge about how urban space is used and produced by capitalism. Against architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, and other established disciplines that fragment the built environment; and against all established disciplinary specializations that dispossess non-privileged communities of their right to know and decide about their environment, the training proposes a radical re-imagination of the intellectual division of labor that dominates the production of cities under contemporary capitalism.

The training also provides overviews on understanding relational urbanization processes; on how to build and transfer trans-disciplinary knowledge; and on dialectical thinking, and historical and geographical materialist inquiry, along with discussions on innovative and experimental social interventions and practices in New York, Barcelona, Puerto Rico, and Quito, where learning from the community and engaged experience has made it possible to construct anti-capitalist interventions that integrate a wide range of public and private actors.
