Join us to learn how to use the power of self-organising and waste streams to support resilience in the neighborhood.
The Afrikaanderwijk Cooperative has been researching and testing new ways of living and working together and collectively caring for each other since 2013. From catering to consultancy, from cleaning to local waste management; the cooperative explores innovative ways of organizing based on shared responsibility and ownership.
One of its fascinating and successful explorations of the shared economy is the Grondstoffenstation, a unique, award-winning recycling hub that transforms waste from the Afrikaandermarkt into new resources, jobs, and a source of local pride.
Built from reused materials and designed by Superuse Studios, the Grondstoffenstation is not only an architectural attraction. Every week, local residents separate and process on this site over 700 tonnes of market waste.
During this tour, you’ll meet the people behind the scenes, learn how the system works, and discover how the cooperative challenges conventional hierarchies between manual and management labor. Come and be inspired by a grassroots model of shared responsibility and circular urban living that transforms waste into a community resource.
