This is a public event; no registration is required.Exhibition Period: 26th Sep - 13th Oct Treasure in Decade - Hong Kong Protest Archival Exhibition offers a profound exploration of Hong Kong's recent socio-political history through over 40 protest artefacts since the 2014 Umbrella Movement, collected by the International Institute of Social History (IISH) and other private collections, spanning to the 2019 Anti-Extradition Bill protests. The exhibition is divided into six insightful sections — Part 1 - Awakening, Part 2 - Varied Journeys, A Shared End, Part 3 - Do You Hear the People Sing, Part 4 - Road Closure, Part 5 - They Can’t Kill Us All, and Part 6 - We’ll Be Back — each capturing pivotal moments and the collective memory of a city in turmoil. By engaging with these artefacts, visitors gain a deeper understanding of their historical significance and the narratives they represent, prompting crucial conversations about the role of art and documentation in preserving social movements for future generations. "Occupy Central with Love and Peace" was the original intention, but the involvement of the student groups fundamentally changed the course of the movement. The 79-day occupation of Harcourt Village was an unexpected "miracle." The Umbrella Movement, or rather, the Umbrella Revolution, altered not only the goals of the original initiators but also the fate of Hongkongers. From the Umbrella to the Anti-Extradition protests, Hongkongers awakened to the realization that destiny lies in their own hands and that democracy and freedom must be fought for. Although we ultimately failed and Hong Kong has fallen, becoming just another coastal city of Mainland China, how can we—those of us forced into exile—not feel pain, sorrow, and anger? This photo-essay collection "Ten Years After the Umbrella: The Unfulfilled Dream of Harcourt Village" features 79 black-and-white photographs in response to the 79 days of Occupy Central. It also includes reflections from ten participants on the unfulfilled utopian dream of Harcourt Village. Photography Exhibition: Ten Years After the Umbrella During the Umbrella Movement, I captured many photographs. However, rather than focusing on intense clashes between protesters and police or clouds of tear gas, my lens concentrated on the "utopia" of Harcourt Village. It was a 79-day world of "love and peace" that had never existed before in Hong Kong’s history and likely never will again.
