<h2>Introduction to e/MTIC by Sjoerd Mentink</h2><h4>Sjoerd Mentink, Philips Director Public-Private Partnerships and member of the e/MTIC steering team</h4><p>Healthcare systems worldwide face challenges in maintaining accessible and high-quality care, primarily due to staff shortages. Technical and social innovations are urgently required to improve efficiencies, experiences, and outcomes. However, the road from early research to implementation is long and winding.</p><p>To accelerate healthcare innovation in the Brainport region, the Eindhoven MedTech Innovation Center (e/MTIC) was founded in 2018. This large-scale strategic collaboration was founded by the Catharina Hospital, the Máxima Medical Center, Kempenhaeghe Epilepsy and Sleep Center, Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and Philips in 2018. Since its inception, startups and other organizations have joined the ecosystem, and the first impactful results have been demonstrated in cardiovascular, perinatal, and sleep medicine.</p>

<h2>Duo Presentation 1: Vessels under stress</h2><h4>Richard Lopata, TU/e Associate Professor</h4><h4>Marc van Sambeek, Vascular Surgeon at Catharina Hospital and Professor at TU/e</h4><p>In the first duo presentation, a vascular surgeon explains his unmet needs in daily clinical practice to an engineer. The engineer is eager to help, but what solutions does he have to offer? Are these viable options? And does the clinician find them acceptable for clinical use? In this part, two different, life threatening conditions will be explored: dilating arteries (abdominal aortic aneurysms) and narrowing arteries (vulnerable plaques). Can we look inside the vessels to see what is their condition and if they are likely to rupture? Or will we remain stuck with population-based generic criteria that statistically show effectiveness, but for the individual patient remain highly inadequate?</p>

<h2>Duo Presentation 2: Home sleep monitoring</h2><h4>Dr. Merel van Gilst, Assistant Professor at TU/e</h4><h4>Peddtro Fonseca, Senior Scientist at Philips Sleep and Respiratory Care</h4><p>Recent years have seen an explosion in the availability and usage of consumer wearables claiming to measure sleep. However, as the first clinical studies comparing the output of those devices with gold standard PSG show, their performance is limited, and validation is often restricted to cohorts with healthy young adults. This has raised doubts as to the feasibility of home sleep monitoring without EEG, in particular in populations for which this technology could be of clinical relevance.</p><p>In this presentation we will briefly discuss the physiological basis for non-EEG home sleep monitoring, and present the results of recent studies conducted in the e/MTIC collaboration between Philips, TU/e and Kempenaheghe.</p>
