Unearthing: undercurrents
Artist Talk & Workshop
We invite you to Unearthing: undercurrents: a workshop that invites participants to create layered artworks using recycled plastic materials, reflecting on the many dimensions of water–from natural ecosystems and human presence to pollution and environmental change.
The evening will start with an artist talk by Roger Anis, one of the artists of our current show Positions: Unearthing. For this program, Anis invited the Egyptian artist Ammar Abo Bakr, who has been collaborating with Roger Anis on the Nile Parade project since its early beginnings. Together with the participants, Ammar Abo Bakr will guide the process of transforming recycled plastic into layered visual compositions. Plastic, a material polluting rivers and oceans, becomes here both the medium and the message. Through this collective process, participants will create a shared artwork that reflects our relationship with water. At the end of the workshop, the individual pieces can be assembled into a collective installation, forming a visual “river” composed of many perspectives, stories and experiences.Recycled plastic material from the VeryNile organization and locally from the Netherlands will be used for the design. The doors open at 18.00 and we start the program with a shared collective vegetarian meal.
Unearthing: undercurrents is organized as part of the public program of Positions: Unearthing, on view until May 3rd in Stroom Den Haag. For any other inquiries, you can reach out to lboven@stroom.nl
