More about your instructor Mariela Flores
Born in Mexico and based in the Netherlands, Mariela Flores graduated in 2017 cum laude in Musicology at the University of Veracruz (MX) and in 2024 she completed the Early Music Voice Masters at the Amsterdam Conservatory (NL), under the tuition of mezzo-soprano Xenia Meijer.
As a solo soprano, she has sung in Claudio Monteverdi'sVespro della Beata Vergine of 1610, Agostino Steffani's Stabat Mater, Johann Sebastian Bach's St John Passion BWV 245, Dietrich Buxtehude's Membra Jesu Nostri and Gioachino Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, among other works. She has collaborated with outstanding conductors such as Andrés Locatelli (Theatro dei Cervelli), Greg Skidmore (Tallis Scholars), Eamonn Dougan (The Sixteen), Lionel Meunier (Vox Luminis), JanJoost van Elburg (Westerkerkkoor Amsterdam), and Adrian van der Spoel (Musica Temprana).
Mariela has been a finalist at the International Salvat Bach and Mirabent I Magrans singing competitions in Spain, together with the International Baroque Singing Competitions Caffarelli and Giovanni Legrenzi in Italy.
Recent highlights cover performing the role of Hermia in Henry Purcell's The Fairy Queen, a BarokOpera Amsterdam production, with a CD release in 2026 as well as the role of Alcina in La liberazione di Ruggiero dall'isola d'Alcina by Francesca Caccini, as part of the XXIV Renaissance and Baroque Music Festival of Vélez Blanco, Spain.
Alongside her singing career, Mariela is a choir and voice teacher at Nieuw Vocaal Amsterdam and Buitenkunst.
